Bean Growers Like FTA

The Ontario Bean Growers is pleased with the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and Republic of Korea.

The group believes it will lead to exciting opportunities for Ontario’s bean growers through access to this growing market.  Korea represents a growth opportunity for beans, especially Adzuki beans which are a valuable Ontario edible bean class used in desserts throughout Asia.

Korea imports approximately 52,000 tonnes of dry beans annually.  26,000 Adzuki and 17,000 Navy and Kidney beans.

Ontario Bean Growers Chair Steve Twynstra says edible beans are a profitable cropping option for farmers and the trade agreement will create expanded bean markets.

Ontario Bean Growers is a not for profit organization that represents the interests of farmers in Ontario that grow beans and founded in 2013 as the Ontario Bean Producers’ Marketing Board and the Ontario Coloured Bean Growers Association amalgamated.
