Canadian Farm Community Mourns Loss Of Ontario Dairy Farmer

Canada’s farm community are sending supportive messages after a tragic accident claimed the life of an Elmira dairy farmer.

Bettina Schuurmans, who was on a cross-country tour with her husband Henk promoting Canada’s dairy industry, died after a tractor trailer collided with the couple’s tractor on Highway 16 between Saskatoon & Langham, Saskatchewan on Monday afternoon.

Henk was taken to hospital with critical injuries but his condition has stabilized.

The couple has been travelling with a large imitation cow on the back of their tractor, documenting their Canadian Milk Tour on Twitter.

The Schuurmans have five adult children, and friends the couple has always been proud of their dairy farming roots, with nine generations of the family making milk dating back to 17th-century Holland.
