Consultations Launched On Northern Ontario Beef Project

Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture is launching consultations on a Northern Livestock pilot project, aimed at increasing beef farming in Ontario’s North.
The project aims to invest in new research to understand various aspects of northern livestock expansion, with a particular focus on the Great Clay Belt, specifically along the Highway 11 corridor between Cochrane and Hearst.
Approximately 1 million acres of farmland and 2,600 farms in Northern Ontario, with just over 700,000 acres in production.
Producers in the north are happy about the new spotlight, however some have voiced displeasure that it’s taken so long.
